A los invisibles

Es el título del proyecto que Consuelo Bautista presentó en La Escuela de Arte de Oviedo el pasado 20 de mayo.

La fotógrafa colombiana afincada en Barcelona comentó que su trabajo es ante todo una reflexión sobre los movimientos migratorios, sus causas, sus consecuencias...

Según la autora nos hemos acostumbrado a ver a las gentes que vienen a nuestros paises en las calles, nos hemos acostumbrado a ver sus cadáveres en las playas, pero sobre todo nos hemos acostumbrado a ser indiferentes... son pues invisibles.

La serie fotográfica, galardonada en 2007 con el premio de Artes Plásticas Ciudad de Barcelona tiene un tono respetuoso de indagación y búsqueda. Desde nuestra orilla se lanza una mirada hacia la orilla del otro lado. La razón, la explicación, el detonante de este reportaje gráfico, como nos comentó Consuelo, es tan sencilla como dejarse atrapar por un tema que en principio no buscabas. Un simple paseo por las playas de Tarifa le sirvió para descubrir las pateras, los objetos personales abandonados... es decir los indicios

Tras esos primeros indicios las fotografías nos muestran las búsquedas al otro lado: con encuadres sobre la vida cotidiana de Marruecos y de Senegal, que muestran lo sencillo y lo duro, lo importante y lo ansiado, el alimento, el trabajo, la religión.

Finalmente la llegada a esta sociedad a través de unas imágenes que transmiten el interrogante ¿para qué?

Por último no podemos dejar de destacar el soporte que Consuelo Bautista ha elegido para transmitir las reflexiones que sus imágenes generan. Junto con el estudio Gráfica se ha elegido un periódico de gran tamaño con un lenguaje iconográfico muy acorde con el tono de las fotografías. Detalles como una portada en blanco en la que se transluce el título impreso por el otro lado, las marcas de la rotativa, la representación de las personas con un circulo evocador del movimiento… son muestra de un adecuado ejercicio conceptual de diseño y maquetación

La charla sobre este proyecto concluyó con la inauguración de la exposición que muestra las fotografías de este trabajo de Consuelo Bautista y que se puede ver en la Escuela de Arte de Oviedo.

That is the title of the project Consuelo Bautista introduced at the Art School in Oviedo last 20th May.

The Colombian photographer, who lives in Barcelona, told us that her work is above all a reflection on the migratory movements, their causes, their consequences....

According to the author, we have got used to seeing people who come to our countries in the streets, we have got used to seeing their corpses on the beaches, but above all we have got used to being indifferent... therefore, they are invisible.

The photographic series, awarded in 2007 with the Prize of Plastic Arts Ciudad de Barcelona, has a respectful tone of inquiry and search. From our shore we cast a glance to the shore on the other side. The reason, the explanation, the trigger of this graphic report, as Consuelo told us, is so simple as letting yourself get trapped by a subject which in principle you were not looking for. A mere walk through the beaches of Tarifa served her to discover the "pateras" (boats), the abandoned personal belongings... that is, the traces.

After those first traces the photographs show us the searches at the other side: with compositions about the daily life in Morocco and Senegal, which show us what is simple and what is hard, what is important and what is yearned for, food, work, religion.

Finally the arrival to this society through pictures that conveys the question What for?

To finish we must emphasize the media Consuelo Bautista has chosen to transmit the reflections her pictures generate. With the studio Gráfica, she has picked a large newspaper with an iconographic language in agreement with the tone of the photographs. Details such as a blank front page in which the title printed on the other side shows through, the marks left by the printing press, the representation of people as a circle suggesting movement.. are the sign of an appropriate conceptual exercice of design and layout.

As the photojournalist said, another kind of media "different from this inconvenient newspaper would not have been coherent".
